BSOC 2012 - Maze Results

The Maze course, 0.7km 12 controls 1:750 map, was a fun training event around the small area used for Christmas tree sales. This has a large number of parallel fences where the trees are laid out. We recorded about 150 times with some competitors trying it 2 or 3 times. I made the course simple to start with and then more difficult towards the end. For inexperienced orienteers, a large scale map helps them to relate the map to the ground as features are more obvious on the map. For experienced orienteers it was a chance to warm down after the SQE and practice a smooth flow through SI controls. I could have made the course harder by using tape (representing uncrossable fences) between the real fences in a few places. This would have given route choice decisions but was too complicated for a single course.
My thanks to Helen Elmes who coped admirably with all the registration and time recording and to Evelyn Elmes who left her allocated job to help out.
